Week Twenty-Nine

29.05.17

This morning we are escaping the hotel and going to the South Shore Beaches ... We went to Horseshoe Bay and walked along the beautiful pink sands and then through the bays leading to Chaplins Bay.  There we collected the pinkest sand we've ever seen and then swam with 12 Parrot Fish.

One of my fears is the sea .... Kim took Patrick in with her and then came back with Eleanor and me .... obviously I had to make sure I didn't show my fear in front of my children but I did not feel comfortable at all.  The waves were quite strong and dragged us back and forth which did make me feel uneasy.  I really hate the fact that I have this fear and really wish I loved FISH!!

Portuguese Man of War .... these are lethal and they stung quite a few of our fellow friends out here

Bermuda's signature bird - The Longtail

This little cove was such good fun, the waves crashed in to the rocks and splashed the children

A bit of rock climbing .... not a good idea in bare feet!

Selfie, don't mind if I do!!  Just took a moment by myself whilst Kim had the children exploring and I have to say I am in love with this island and really don't want to leave :-(

I adore this lady ... Kim ... she has been my support whilst out in Bermuda and I'm not sure what I would have done without her .... oh I know, drank less!! :-)  But kidding aside she has been fantastic with the children and kept me on a very even-keel.  I thank you Kim, you are a 🌟 and I 💗 you :-)  [Two other people that also deserve a medal for putting up with me are Bianca and Marion - again without them I think I may of lost the plot!!  Love you loads guys 💗💗]

After a gorgeous morning exploring the beaches we had to hop on a bus to get to Dockyard to go support the boys again and watch the races .... this also gave Patrick and Eleanor some Daddy time as Neil is currently working lates (9.30am-10.30pm) so when we had our races he was allowed to pop out and we all got to see him :-)

After the races finished we hopped on a bus and got ourselves back to the Beach Club to meet back up with Kim and to have dinner there.  The sky was incredible .... it looked like there was an Angel looking down on us 👼

Kids are playing .... and, well, I am just chilling on a sun lounger whilst the children play ... and this is my view 🤣

30.05.17

This is our last day volunteering in the Exploration Centre.  The racing is in full swing and we were fully prepared for a steady flow of the general public.  Amy instructed us on what we needed to do and what information we needed to say.  Eleanor if needed was instructed to explain the 'Robot'.  This Robot is used to catch Lion Fish and bless her she was put in the deep end and had to explain how it worked to Wendy Schmidt (one of our investors and the CEO for 11th Hour Racing, 'Mr Google's' wife no less!)

 BAR's Shop

 My Techy Son ....

Lizzie ... our super fan.  She is our very own Olympic Skeleton Bob medallist, and James Roche's girlfriend

Time to watch the race for today ... we were allowed to escape the Exploration Centre as it goes very quite during the racing!
..... it's all a bit tense!  Not sure Pete & Kim can cope ....
Kev is as cool as mustard though ....
Even Karen is biting her nails!!

Photographers at the ready ..... the guys are coming over the finish line but unfortunately we didn't win
Time for the children to chill out in the Kids Zone ....

.... they are practising their grinding skills and sailing a very important boat!
The guys are back and we greet the boys back at the Base

Ben having a quick chat with the Coach ....
Paul Campbell-James coming back in to greet his gorgeous family, Helen and Summer

The boat being taken out of the water and getting ready for the big clean down and getting it ready for the next day ....

After the guys had a quick de-brief we were invited upstairs in to the Hospitality Suite for the Inside Tack with Georgie ... each day she interviews the sailors to follow up on the days' racing ....

Here are some of the professional photos taken today by Mark Lloyd ....

On our way back from the Base and down to Dockyard to go and catch the ferry .... the children (including Kim!!) needed to cool off.  So what better way than to strip off and run through the fountain :-)
Outside Snorkel Bay they have a whacky green inflatable giant that just wafts around in the breeze ...
This is a video .... which frustratingly for some reason we can load up in to this blog ... but this shows Kim at her best and her inner child, joining in with my two - love it!!
Back at the hotel #sunset

31.05.17

Day 5 of racing and it's Ladies Day.  So everyone dressed in their finest dresses and attire and loaded up on to the ferry to enjoy the day at the Village.  The ferry across was like a herd of chickens it was so loud with all the women talking!!

 Cuddles with Daddy .....
Eleanor helping Jenny out with little Vivian ....

.... even Patrick wanted to help Jenny
Again we were invited up to Hospitality to watch the Inside Tack ... and a special bonus was afternoon tea :-)

01.06.17

It's the 1st of June ... oh my golly we are in our last month of being in Bermuda and now it is all too scary as to how quickly this might be coming to an end and we have to leave this beautiful island.  COME ON BAR ....

There are an array of our photos and Mark Lloyd's, the professional photographer from today's racing day .... the America's Cup Village was closed as this was supposed to be a Lay day but we are having to do a catch up day due to bad weather yesterday.

All the children helping to carry the Sail back in ....

We all decided to watch the racing on the big screens in a very empty Village!

Eleanor, Patrick and Mason cheering the boys back in ....

 ... oh and Dylan

... Cristina cheering on her husband who drives one of the ribs

Back at Hamilton we decided to go and visit some of the Tall Ships and it coincided with Harbour Nights where there were lots of stalls selling gifts and food ....

02.06.17

A day off from the racing .... it's been so intense getting up to the Base every day to support the guys and very tiring for the children.  But .... we just had to remind ourselves that actually we weren't the ones doing the work, support or actual racing so actually, we weren't as tired as the guys who were really dealing with the Nitty-gritty!!

But today .... was all about Tristan's 5th birthday and Dylan's 3rd birthday party.  We had a train ride for an hour around Hamilton and in to the Botanical Gardens and then back around Hamilton.  The children had an absolute ball and shouted at any passers by that it was the 'Birthday Train'.  Then we went back to the pool for swimming and cake.  What a great time and big thanks to Marion and Bianca for organising it.

03.06.17

So today ... back to the racing and back up to the Base we headed on the ferry.

So far we have only won one race but because we had 2 points from the World Series we are still up in the leader board and still fighting.

Neil on the boat doing Systems pre-checks ...
Pete .... he's pleased to see Kim!
Tina, Kim and Myself (3rd, 2nd and 1st!!)
Some of the guys waiting to push-off ....
.... Er, not yet lads .... Neil's still got his head stuck in the hull doing checks!!
My family .... love my children and proud of my husband :-)

Ashton, Neil and Lovvers doing their last checks ....

Village entrance had a steel band playing today ....

So whilst the systems checks were still happening we decided to head over to the village for the Dockout Party .... this is where all the Sailors came up on stage and be introduced and each Helmsman was able to say a few words.  Obviously our very own Fan Club were the loudest!!

 Up first ... New Zealand

 Japan ....

 YEAH .... BAR

 ... Sweden

 .... France

Ooops .... I've misplaced the Oracle's team photos!!

Time to stay in the village and watch the racing ... Eleanor's happy she has a prime seat!
Neil was able to join us for our race ....

We will support in any which way we can .... !!

 Inside Tack with Georgie .....
Ferry ride home with Kim and the Carr's ....

 Bit of pole dancing Kim?

Oh but yes Dylan ... dancing round a pole is great fun ....
... and of course Eleanor will give anything a go!
 Dylan loves Eleanor
 Dylan also loves Patrick

04.06.17

Professional photos from today's Dockout Party ....

Our little train ride up to the Base

Ah, we are the first ones here for the Dockout party .... great we get a good view
We were photographed in the main crowd ...

Once racing had finished and we arrived back in Hamilton we took our chances and went to see if we could get on to one of the Tall Ships.  We managed to get on to the Amerigo Vespucci - talk about impressive.  Everything was polished to perfection - it was stunning.

There was also lots of entertainment on Front Street celebrating the fact that the Tall Ships were visiting for 5 days

Now that the sunsets have shifted around and we don't get the whole view from the hotel ... there are some evenings where they are still amazing #sunset and I still am in awe 🌞🌇

Well that's the end of an exciting week of races .... and we are still holding on by the skin of our teeth!!  Here's to next week and another day in paradise.

lots of love
The Wise Old Owls xxxx
