DAYTONA 30.06 - 01.07.17

30.06.17

We are here at Daytona International Speedway and yes, Neil has convinced me to come and watch the NASCAR Coca Cola Firecracker 250.

The Speedway is huge and the noise is loud on the outside!

 Some excited little people

Wow .... this is really cool :-)

Eleanor was in charge of where she wanted us to sit

All the cars are all lined up ready .....

So we are just waiting for things to get started

Eleanor is a little worried about the noise .... and her Daddy insisted she didn't need earplugs!!

Everyone that has paid to go down to the track have now been told to move back to the seated area as things are about to get started .....

Uh oh .... look at those clouds coming over ...... πŸŒ₯⛅☁  Fingers crossed it won't stop the race?

  Still waiting .....

The National Anthem is sung and all the mechanics come out of their pits and line up to sing along with the crowds
And we're off .... the race has started and oh my .... it's really loud!

So rain did stop the race .... and we hung around for a couple of hours until they announced that the race was cancelled until tomorrow and that we were allowed to use today's tickets tomorrow .... so we'll come back tomorrow to hopefully catch the end of the race 🏁

We got so wet which then meant poor Eleanor was freezing in her summer dress .... Neil managed to blag a Chevrolet t-shirt so the poor thing looks like an orphan!

01.07.17

The 1st July and we are at Daytona for the second day and we are just awaiting the start of the race to continue from yesterday.  They need to finish the 250 because this evening it's supposed to be the 400.  Let's hope that the weather holds off today ....
The cars are still lined up as they came in last night and they weren't allowed to touch them or move them.  So they just stayed covered up overnight and are now waiting for the race to commence ....
Obviously the children wanted hats ....
Well those clouds are certainly looking interesting ... we've already seen flash lighting .....

Well the race managed about 3 laps before it was called off again .... so back in came the cars and recovered .... and we now just wait for the story to pass ....
.... and we waited .....
.... and we waited a couple of hours.  Managed to charge my phone though at one of the charging points and whilst sitting there waiting for the phone to charge we got chatting to three Bermudians who were over especially for the race.  As per usual very friendly and even gave the children some pins and a keyring each πŸ˜€

So the race has started after waiting and boy did it got off with a fast start ....
... so with only a couple of laps to go it all gets a bit more interesting.  As all the cars are dodging to get in front of the person in front accidents were happening every lap .... they'd then have to slow down for the clear up to then get going again .... and then bang, another crash ....

.... finally the race had ended and a young chap called William Byron won the race age 19 from Charlotte, North Carolina πŸπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ the rain stopped and held off for the race to finish after 5 crashes .... Exciting stuff

Well I really enjoyed Daytona and would definitely do it again ....

Neil:  "Awesome experience for the whole family"

Patrick:  "Brilliant, loved it"

Eleanor:  "It was really good but a bit loud"

lots of love The Wise Old Owls xxxx
