National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force, Pooler, Georgia - This museum was just near Savannah so rather than walking around Savannah historic town again we decided to pay a visit to the museum.
All these flags were of the nations that were involved in WWII
Patrick, Neil and even Eleanor were really interested in the exhibition ....
I've included all the information boards for my Dad .... he'll find this really interesting!
This picture is of a book store that was bombed ... as you can see some of the shelves were still in tact
We are now in a field in a Nissen Hut being given instructions on what our mission could have been during the plans for the Battle of Britain ....

Talmadge Memorial Bridge in Savannah, Georgia
St Augustine
Another hotel .... or should I say Motel ... Neil absolutely detests Motel's!!
So all booked in to the hotel and unloaded the car again .... it was time to take a walk out in to the historic St Augustine Old Town.
Castillo de San Marcos
The Old City Entrance
This old town comprised of lots of gift shops, restaurants and bars ....
The Oldest Wood School House in the USA
This old street is amazing .... so quaint and full of life, what a buzz ♫♬🎜🎝
More Spanish Moss
There are a lot of Spanish looking houses and churches which is because Saint Augustine was founded on September 8, 1565, by the Spanish admiral Pedro Menéndez de Avilés, who was Florida's first governor.
Flagler College was once Hotel Ponce de León
In 1888, Flagler built the Hotel Ponce de León, his first in a series of luxury resorts along Florida’s east coast. A masterpiece of Spanish Renaissance architecture and the first major poured-in-place concrete building in the United States is now known as Ponce de Leon Hall. A National Historic Landmark, it serves as the centerpiece for Flagler College.
Tired!

We have time to discover a bit more of St Augustine this morning before moving on. So we decided that we would pay a visit to the castle - Castillo de San Marcos.
The wall in the left hand corner is what is left of the palisade ....
.... and it continues on the other side of the road by the entrance to the Old City
Castillo de San Marcos
One of the volunteers
The walls were made from locally sourced shell stone
These volunteers in full costume come out to show how the cannons work and they fire the cannon afterwards - a very loud BANG which echoed across the bay
This again is the palisade wall ....
Patrick and Eleanor completing their worksheets
This is what the room would have looked like ....
.... and this is it now after being restored
This room had a mezzanine floor where the soldiers would have lived
The children completing their workbooks so that they could collect a prize
Volunteers taking a well earned break
The children collecting their certificate, badge and prize
That was the castle completed and we all found it really interesting 🏰
Well, that's our little tour over in St Augustine, what a lovely place.... time to get on the road as we need to get to Daytona
The Bridge taking us out of St Augustine
St Augustine's Lighthouse
On our way out of St Augustine we took a break off the road to have a quick look at one of the beachesOh my golly gosh .... it was so hot we just got back in the car and the AC
A house on stilts ....
.... these houses are really cool. They are on the beach and on stilts
So next stop is Daytona where we will be catching some action with the Daytona International Speedway track featuring the Firecracker 250.
I loved St Augustine and the fact that it has held on to it's history. It was a really quaint, old city and was a joy to walk around.
lots of love The Wise Old Owls xxxx
